Center for English Language Studies
The Center for English Language Studies (CELS) offers various university-wide services to ensure that international and multilingual students are integrated, prepared, and supported throughout their studies at The New School. These services include proficiency assessment, faculty development, curriculum design, and pronunciation help.
The CELS is dedicated to removing the barriers to linguistic equity and integrating English language support into the university curriculum and pedagogy in order to offer an inclusive model of higher education to our globalized student body.
Most importantly for faculty, CELS offers two free workshop options for faculty to develop their teaching skills and learn to support English Language Learners: the TESOL Methods Intensive for Faculty, a five-day, 33-hour learning experience, which leads to the Language Support Badge, and the two-day TESOL Methods Toolkit. Offerings are announced each semester. The full TESOL Certificate is also available and accessible via the New School’s tuition waiver program.
The Center for English Language Studies is part of Curriculum, Learning, and Academic Affairs within the Provost’s Office. Contact Caitlin Morgan, Senior Director, Center for English Language Studies, at morganc@newschool.edu or call 212.229.5372.
