Guide To Teaching and Learning

Student Health Services

Student Health Services provides medical, psychological, and wellness support services to our students year-round. The mission of Student Health Services is to promote the health and well-being of students to foster their learning and success.

Through high-quality, comprehensive, holistic healthcare and support, we help students become thoughtful health consumers and advocates for their own well-being and that of others.

The Reference Guide to Mental Health, Medical Services and Student Support provides necessary resources to identify and refer students in need of immediate support and resources. You’ll find a full list of phone numbers, email addresses, and web links referenced in this guide.

Medical Services

Same Day appointments are also available for urgent medical concerns. To schedule any appointment, please go to shsportal.newschool.edu or contact us at 212.229.1671, option 2.

Counseling

Counseling Services provides in-person and telehealth visits to meet the healthcare needs of all students. The initial visit can be scheduled through the SHS Portal or by calling 212-229-1671. In addition to one-on-one counseling sessions, we encourage students to check out our support groups and mindfulness appointments (available in fall and spring semesters only). Students can walk-in without an appointment Monday – Friday, 1:45-2:45 pm.

AFTER HOURS NURSE LINE
Free nurse advice when Student Health Services is closed. Phone: 212-229-1671, option 1 or 2, all weekend and after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.

Health Insurance

The Student Health Insurance Plan is an integral part of the university’s efforts to promote the well-being of our students. All eligible students need to enroll or waive the plan by the waiver deadline. For more information about the student health insurance plan, and how to enroll or waive, visit the insurance page.

Health & Wellness Directory

Wellness and Health Promotion (WHP) is the public health branch of SHS. Under the Wellness Resources section of the Directory, there are additional medical and wellness resources in and around New York City. WHP supports student organizing and advocacy via the Peer Health Advocacy program. For more information, please email wellness@newschool.edu; we are also on Instagram @newschoolhealth.
